My red positive cover was not snapped on. Was laying und er hood. Is there supposed to be one covering the negative terminal?

I don't believe so. Even if your negative terminal came loose that would just kill power to your battery nothing more. Mine didn't come with a negative so I'm just making assumptions but even if something knocked your negative off you are in no danger of a short.

Thanks. Didn't know if that helped protect from elements. Must be just to cover positive to prevent shorting out your battery from doing something carelessly.
