Hi guys! I just bought a 2017 Rebel and I go to the snow quite often. I bought snow chains and I was shocked to find out that there isn't enough room for clearance between the snow chain and brake line on the back tires. I bought Titan chains (TC3229-SCAM) which the Titan website fitment guide said it should fit the Toyo tires LT 285/70-R17. The chain actually touches the brake line! I also tried Z-chains and have the same problem. There is nothing about snow chains in the owners manual. Did I really buy a 4x4 truck that I can't take to the mountains? We get a lot of R3 chain control areas where chains are required on all vehicles with no exceptions. Any advice or suggestions would help. Thanks.

hey bro, for the ram rebel 4x4, u can't use chain tires, any kind of chain will hit the brake lines. The Toyo tires are made all terrain/weather, the only thing is to get up there at the mountains you must have really good conditions tires.. up 60% of life on them . you can show the truck manual to the officers and they will check your tires are in perfect condition and they will let you go.. We went to Yosemite 4 weeks ago, without chains; and the rebel is a monster perfect for snow. just make sure don't brake to much and use the gears for brake. let me tell you the toyota tundra 4x4 with chains went out of road even the ford 1500 4x4 and subaru 4wd.

Actually you can put tire chains on, I do it for the snow/mud into elk camp, I use 1 1/2" wheel spacers and the chains clear easily. Don't know about doing this every time you need to go through the snow or w/chain up in affect, but I have not had an issue yet.

I can't wait for winter to try out my Rebel in the snow...wasn't planning on buying any type of chains or anything...but just using the great tires and clearance for some fun! :)

What about cable chains? They are not bulky like the chain. Hell I even had a big rig driver come in last year and he was showing off these “tire bags” that he was raving about. They are made in Germany and are cloth. He said they work just as good as chains and WAY easier to get on. And they are way less bulky.
I never did research them though

Has anyone gotten feedback from Ram regarding this matter? I'm from NW Montana and need chains occasionally. Just got stuck with my old Dodge Ram 1500 bear hunting a few weeks ago. Without chains, I would have never gotten free without a tow. We need a redesign/refitting solution recall. Back in the 80's the Army had a 5 ton truck with a break line that could be compromised in a similar manner. It cost the government a pretty penny for the house the truck smashed into and the occupant of the house that was killed. CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP® RAM MOPAR® SRT® FIAT® ALFA ROMEO may find themselves liable. Do they monitor this forum?!?
